چکیده

A 53-year-old woman with a history of allergic disease was admitted to our hospital because of syncope induced by sustained ventricular tachycardia. The clinical course and the laboratory data did not correspond to those of acute myocarditis. Although eosinophils in the peripheral blood count were not increased, the diagnosis of eosinophilic myocarditis was made following a right ventricular endomyocardial biopsy that showed a remarkable infiltration of eosinophils. While giant cells were another histopathological feature of this case, they were considered to be an expression of the disease severity. This is a rare case of eosinophilic myocarditis, without peripheral eosinophilia. 2015 Japanese College of Cardiology. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Eosinophilic myocarditis associated with dense deposits of eosinophil cationic protein (ECP) in endomyocardium with high serum ECP.

A case of eosinophilic myocarditis following high serum levels of eosinophil cationic protein (ECP) is described. A 27 year old woman was admitted with New York Heart Association (NYHA) class III congestive heart failure. A haematological study showed hypereosinophilia with degranulation and vacuoles; the total eosinophil count was 7980/ml and the ECP serum concentration was noticeably high at ...

Giant cell myocarditis responding to immunosuppressive therapy.

An unusual case of giant cell myocarditis presenting with cardiogenic shock that dramatically responded to conventional dose of steroids and azathioprine is reported. Cardiac recovery was rapid, complete (left ventricular ejection fraction rose to 55% from 10%), and was accompanied by the disappearance of the inflammatory infiltrates including giant cells in the control endomyocardial biopsy. M...

Diagnosis of Exclusion: A Case Report of Probable Glatiramer Acetate-Induced Eosinophilic Myocarditis

Importance. Medication-induced eosinophilia is an acknowledged, often self-limiting occurrence. Glatiramer acetate, a biologic injection used in the management of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis, is widely regarded as a safe and effective medication and lists eosinophilia as an infrequent side effect in its package insert. Contrary to reports of transient, benign drug-induced eosinophili...

Hypercalcemia associated with eosinophilic myocarditis in a patient undergoing maintenance hemodialysis.

A 77-year-old man previously treated with maintenance hemodialysis was admitted due to appetite loss, nausea and shortness of breath. He showed progressive heart failure and eosinophilia without any basal disorders and was diagnosed with idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) accompanied by eosinophilic myocarditis. Laboratory data revealed hypercalcemia, a low serum parathyroid hormone le...

Eosinophilic myocarditis and hypereosinophilic syndrome.

Hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) is a heterogeneous group of hematological disorders characterized by a chronic, unexplained hypereosinophilia with tissue damage. Cardiac involvement occurs in ∼20% of patients with HES and represents a major turning point. Cardiac injuries related to eosinophilia are divided into three chronological phases: eosinophilic infiltration, thrombosis, and fibrosis. W...
